2-Year MA Programme in International Relations
The MA in International Relations at Collegium Civitas is an advanced academic programme designed for those already keenly interested in the area of International Relations studies and who are already equipped with basic research skills. It offers a unique opportunity for students who are developing, or who already have, their career goals in mind, to choose academic courses that would suit their personal career path e.g. in diplomacy, international business or political consulting.
Awareness of contemporary international relations, as well as political economic and cultural relations is a requirement when becoming a successful professional in a globalizing world.
The Masters in International Relations at Collegium Civitas is an education programme which aims to prepare students for analytical research on processes, structures, and key factors necessary to understand international relations.
During this advanced 2-year Master’s Degree Programme students must take 9 obligatory courses, including Globalization Process and Decision-making in International Relations, in order to extend their knowledge in the area of international relations. Starting from the first semester, students are encouraged to choose elective courses that suit their own interests and purposes, which makes International Relations among the most flexible of programmes offered. A tremendous variety of electives include courses available exclusively for different International Relations paths, including Public Diplomacy or International Business and negotiations.
This 2-year, full-time Master’s Degree Course explores the processes and conceptions behind international relations, analysing the role of states, multinational corporations, and international organizations. The education programme offers an interdisciplinary, critical, sophisticated approach to international affairs, teaching students to apply the tools necessary for critical research to a variety of world issues. The programme focuses on issues vital for explaining overall global dynamics: security, human rights, terrorism, and globalization.
Supervision and tutorials are provided by Agnieszka Nitza, teaching and research assistant at the Institute of International Relations and Sustainable Development in Collegium Civitas. She is due to defend her PhD thesis entitled Political Conditions of Democracy in India and Pakistan – Comparative Analysis in 2015. Her academic interests are concentrated on South Asia, democratization processes and comparative politics. At Collegium Civitas she teaches the following courses: Analysis of Current International Affairs and International Relations Workshop. She enjoys a healthy lifestyle, including doing sports and keeping a balanced diet. In her free time she takes cheap flights to Asia and loves travelling.
Objectives and learning outcomes
This specialisation will help students to, inter alia:
- analyse and come to conclusions based on critical understanding of key events in international politics
- acquire a sound knowledge and competent interpretation of the discipline of international relations
- attain a general critical awareness of key issues
- develop interpretative and analytical skills
- critically assess data, information and ideas
- develop a greater comprehension of the key concepts and theories used to explain contemporary international events
- gain awareness of the interaction between international organizations and institutions
- develop oral and written communication skills essential when working in an international and multicultural environment
- develop presentation and negotiation skills
Upon completion of the Master’s in International Relations, graduates are well-prepared to launch successful careers in the field of international relations, whether for non-governmental organizations, international organizations, ministries, or the media. Future career opportunities includes:
- political and/or business analyst
- political and/or business consultant
- public servant

After having successfully completed this programme, students will be granted a diploma of Master of Arts in International Relations.
