3-Year BA Programme in International Relations

The BA in International Relations at Collegium Civitas provides a solid foundation for those who wish to develop their interests in contemporary global politics, international economics, or modern societies – depending on personal goals and expectations. It was designed to fully equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to start a career in the international environment as well as successfully pursuing a Master’s Degree in international relations or related fields.

To study international relations is to understand how the constantly changing world and contemporary society work. The Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at Collegium Civitas is an education programme aimed at students who are interested in international politics and relations between various actors on the international stage.

During this 3-year, interdisciplinary BA Programme, students will be obliged to pass the principal courses such as World History, Philosophy and Macroeconomics in order to develop their general knowledge in the areas which are crucial to understanding contemporary international relations. Among the obligatory courses that BA International Relations students must take there are ones dedicated only to international relations, including an Introduction to International Relations and Analysis of Current International Affairs. Starting from the second semester, students are encouraged to choose elective courses that suit their own interests and purposes, which makes IR the most flexible programme being offered. A wide variety of electives includes courses available exclusively for different IR tracks, such as Media, Diplomacy and International Negotiations or International Business.

This full-time Bachelors programme analyses and draws conclusions based on a critical understanding of key events in international politics. Students acquire a sound knowledge of international relations as a whole, including leading theories and schools of international relations. Students enrolled in the programme study and become proficient in European diplomacy, integration, security, and international law. They gain the ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of key international affairs by means of competent usage of theoretical and analytical tools drawn from international relations.

By the end of this BA programme students will not only have learned about theories of international relations, international public law and contemporary economic policies, but they will also have developed more practical skills required by employers, such as strong communication skills, teamwork skills and the ability to think analytically.

Supervision and tutorials are provided by Agnieszka Nitza, a teaching and research assistant in the Institute of International Relations and Sustainable Development in Collegium Civitas. She is to defend her PhD thesis entitled Political Conditions of Democracy in India and Pakistan – Comparative Analysis in 2015. Her academic interests are concentrated on South Asia, democratization processes and comparative politics. At Collegium Civitas she teaches the following courses: Analysis of Current International Affairs and International Relations Workshop. She is a great fan of a healthy lifestyle including participating in sports and keeping a balanced diet. In her free time she catches cheap flights to Asia and loves any chance to travel.

Objectives and learning outcomes

 This course will help students to, inter alia:

  • analyse and draw conclusions based on critical understanding of key events in international politics
  • acquire a sound knowledge and competent understanding of the discipline of international relations
  • critically assess data, information and ideas
  • develop a greater awareness of the key concepts and theories used to explain contemporary international events
  • develop a knowledge and understanding of the key political institutions
  • develop oral and written communication skills essential when working in international and multicultural environment
  • develop presentation and negotiation skills

Employment prospects 

 Upon completion of the Bachelors in International Relations, graduates are well-prepared to launch successful careers in the field of international relations, working in, for instance, ministries, consulting companies, non-governmental organizations, public and regional administration and international organizations. Future career opportunities include:

After having successfully completed this programme, students will be granted a diploma of Bachelor of Arts in International Relations.
