The European Neighbourhood Policy - background, status, outlook

About the European Neighbourhood Policy:

The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is based on the premise of growing "interdependence" between the EU and its eastern and southern neighbours. The goal of ENP is to promote economic and political cooperation between the EU and its neighbours, and at the same time to create regions of stability and security at the EU?s borders. Since its inception in 2003 the ENP has rapidly evolved, there are now sixteen ENP partner states. The past five years have also seen the swift development of new institutions for the EU's relations with its neighbours and an expansion of policy areas covered by the ENP. This has led to a situation where events outpace knowledge and analysis. The project held at Collegium Civitas (Warsaw, Poland) aims to develop mechanisms for the production and coordination of research and dissemination in order to directly meet the demand for new knowledge and analysis.

About the Project:

The project is held at Collegium Civitas (CC), mainly by employees of the Department of International Relations at CC and staff of the Center for Security Studies at CC, as well as by specialists from PRIO. The Center for Security Studies is an institutional cooperation project between CC and PRIO, which will be strengthened and enriched by the proposed project.

Output:

A book publication is planned as a follow up to the seminar series and international conference, engaging specialist from both institutions, assembling analysis on the key issues of the ENP: good governance, migration, minorities, European Institutions and the ENP. The seminars will be directed to students and academics as well as to international policy makers, with a large emphasis on the Polish administration responsible for the preparation of the Polish Presidency in 2011.
