About CfSS

AIM
The aim of the Centre for Security Studies (CfSS) is:
• to carry out state-of-the-art research and teaching on the theory and practice of security
• document, analyze and provide political recommendations relative to the politics of security directly concerned by Poland in its regional, European, and global settings.
INSTITUTIONAL BASIS
The CfSS is institutionally based at Collegium Civitas (Warsaw, Poland) and attached to its legal, administrative and financial mechanisms.
FINANCING
The financial basis for the CfSS between April 2008 and April 2011 will be supplied by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme. Collegium Civitas is a consortium partner in the project entitled “INEX” - Converging and conflicting values in the internal/external security continuum in Europe of which.

Between October 2008 and November 2009 the CfSS held a project entitled “The European Neighbourhood Policy – assessment, status and outlook”. The project was held as an institutional cooperation between Collegium Civitas and PRIO (International Peace Research Institute, Oslo) and completed with the support granted by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway by means of co-financing from the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism as part of the Scholarship and Training Fund.
In this period the CfSS organised and international conference regarding the European Neighbourhood Policy (October 2009), three seminars, a 60 hours lecture for international students regarding European security and prepared a publication for printing.
Further financing will be sought.
FACULTY AND STAFF
The CfSS's staff is a mix of academic and support staff. It is directed by J. Peter BURGESS. Its primary research staff consists of Marcin ZABOROWSKI and Kerry LONGHURST. Support staff currently consists of Anna ZIELIŃSKA.
RESEARCH
The primary activity of the CfSS is to carry out research at high-level international standard, focusing on the following sub-themes:
• Central European security
• Poland in Europe
• globalisation of security
The Centre's research is forward-looking, aiming at developing new perspectives, both in theory and in empirical knowledge production.
EDUCATION
The CfSS has as its secondary activity to develop a postgraduate curriculum based on both – a solid empirical knowledge of the Central European region and its place in Europe and the world. The Centre will aspire to lead on in the teaching of security theory necessary to understand the current events.
